Ellen is prepared

A good night’s sleep prepared us all for breakfast – hard to believe after the dinner we ate last night. What a scrumptious spread from European style cold meats, cereals, all manner of eggs and even champagne should you wish it (we passed). It is meant to be warmer today at 12 degrees but the wind is bitter and blowing quite hard when we ventured out on our bus/walking tour.

We drove around for about an hour with a guide explaining all the buildings and sites.


Although much of the architecture is of a similar age to that in London and Paris but just that bit different. It is hard to explain, something in the angles and the features of the decoration. There is the oldest Ferris Wheel in the world still operating, albeit a bit slowly.

Austria is an interesting country. The education is totally free as are all the books needed. The cuisine is a mixture of all the countries that were part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire – the pastries and cakes are totally delicious, after all sacha torte was invented here. Of course the musical history is full of many of the famous classical names we all recognise; Stauss, Beethoven (wrote here) and Klimt the artist.

We opted for a restful afternoon before heading off to the Operetta concert tonight. We sail tomorrow
