Nice to have a sleep in this morning. We went through a few locks going down the mountains now. Each lock took us down 25 metres.

It all happens so fast but it is fascinating to watch. Amazing. Apparently, they had a really hot, long summer in Europe and some times the river ships couldn't sail to the next town because the Danube was so low. The passengers were bused instead. Fortunately we had plenty of water.

Nuremberg has these ancient city walls that are still functional today. Of course Nuremberg has much history connected to the war years as well. The castle was so important in the Middle Ages and a major one of the Roman Empire.

The well, entrances and towers take you right back to ancient times. Restoration has been very successful and people still live and work in the buildings within the walls.

Of course, there were Christmas Markets. It is great that each town/city has a slightly different take on the markets with each one adding extra focus on their own traditional wares. Nuremberg is famous for it's toys so there were many stalls with wooden toys displayed.
